I bet you chose Number 2 didn’t you Smarty Pants? =P

Well, as usual you’re right. “Blending in” just doesn’t have the same emotional draw as the others, does it? And I’m thinking therein lies a problem with those who have a certain proclivity for leather and things that go thump in the night.

You see, Kink is going mainstream. Or what I like to call “Kink-Light”.

It’s in Rhianna videos and gothic-chic styles. It’s on poster boards and commercials. Slowly but surely that pair of handcuffs tucked surreptitiously under your mattress is becoming a ho-hum item - much like the traditional dildo…

(How often do you hear shocked gasps when a sex toy in mentioned nowadays? Exactly. Those once heart-fluttering items are being sold as health aides. Sure, they do promote sexual as well as cardiovascular health…but where’s the fun in that?! My dildo is suddenly on par with my morning vitamins?! Woo-F’n-Hoo!)

So as “fetish” becomes more accepted, are kinksters going to have to delve into more extreme forms of play to get the same “rush” of doing something “bad”? I wonder how much of the thrill is actually doing a certain activity - spanking, etc. - verses the fact that it’s not “supposed” to be done.

On one hand, it’s great alternative forms of sexual expression are being accepted by the larger culture, but on the other hand - the acceptance may ruin the thrill of it altogether. Quite the conundrum.

Or maybe - just maybe - two branches of Kinksters will emerge…those that actually enjoy the sensations/connectivity of the activity themselves verses those who do it because they like the rebellious feeling it gives them. OR the second branch - liking rebellion - will itself become a Kink. OR the first branch will tout themselves as “true” Kinksters because they are doing it because they actually like it.

Hmm. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

If you’re into Kinky-play at all…what are your thoughts on the “darker” side going soft-squishy-public?

On a Side Note: I’ve gotten wind that sometime in the next few months a super huge sexuality site is going to open. I briefly met the owner of the site a few days ago - cool guy - and he’s planning a lot of fun events for it. We’ll see. I’ll keep you posted!
