It’s not often I come across a blog so beautifully and powerfully written that I feel immediately compelled to tell others about it, but “A View from the Top” is truly a remarkable reading experience.

I’ll admit, I only found David’s blog because it linked back to a previous post on Speak Sexy, and I was able to track some of my own visitors back to his latest post entitled “What is shi-shi-toi.” I’d like to thank those visitors that blog-hopped between us because they led me back to such a wonderful place. (And in case you’re wondering, David has no idea I’m writing this surprise review!)

A View from the Top focuses on the mental dynamics of D/s relationships - sometimes from a personal point of view, but more often from a very intellectual/analytic perspective, using examples from his every day life and chats with others to illustrate his ideas. Topics range from what “humiliation” really means to sensual erotic encounters. What really impressed me was David’s ability to capture those intense and fleeting moments between Doms and subs that make this lifestyle so unique and intriguing. The “things” associated with D/s (bondage gear, leather, etc.) are never the focus of his discussions as they really don’t matter - it’s the emotional connections, the desires, the utter satisfaction a Dom and a sub can give to each other that is conveyed. In fact, even the “sex” is ancilliary to the core of what he’s trying to speak about. You can tell by the way he positions the characters in his erotic fiction that he fundamentally understands what a sexually submissive woman needs in those moments (the encounters are of the heterosexual, male Dom/fem sub variety). It’s also evident how much pleasure the Dom gets from watching her submit to him fully.

 The intangible emotional exchange is made explicit through his writing, and portrays the true depth of such experiences - a poignancy that videos, no matter how carefully crafted, can’t convey.

So, if you are at all inclined to explore the world of D/s further, or if you would simply like to connect with someone who obviously has a deep respect and thoughtful approach to these matters, please take a look at A View from the Top. It’s a rarity to find these kinds of provoking, open minded, adult discussions in a web unfortunately awash with sexual superficiality.
